Rough Edges
It somehow seems like a cruel joke that, while our skin thins, we get more tough calluses on our hands and feet. Collagen—or the lack of it—is the cause once again.
As our body’s collagen declines, we can have even more issues if we neglect caring for our feet and fingers. Our feet have gotten a lot of use and friction, after all, and if we aren’t good about keeping them moisturized and removing the calluses with a pumice stone or manicures and pedicures—something that becomes more of a necessity than a luxury as we age—the calluses can crack and make it hard to walk or stand.
If you live near a beach, you can take advantage of Mother Nature’s pedicure by walking where the sand serves as the world’s natural callus remover.
Otherwise, perhaps it’s time for a spa day. As we age it becomes a medical necessity, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy it.
