About the Illustrator
Robert Chambers is an illustrator, art teacher, and shamefully optimistic USDA Zone 6 gardener.
He lives in Flagstaff, Arizona, and works primarily in the field of outdoor education. He does landscape designs and illustrations for a local nonprofit called Terra BIRDS. Its goal is to get school kids outside digging in the dirt during the school day. He creates drawings for comic books, T-shirts, stickers, group murals, and other educational materials for TerraBIRDS, including Space Salad! He is also a freelance illustrator and internationally recognized urban sketch instructor. When he is not drawing, he is trying to keep up with his wife and son on their mountain bikes.

ILLUSTRATION INSIGHT: Someone asked why the person on the cover is riding a tandem bicycle. Illustrator Robert Chambers had a fascinating answer:
“The idea of the tandem bike was that death was trying to come along for a ride. Death is saying ‘Hey wait for me, wait for me!’ And the woman (or man, depending on your preference) is responding ‘Heck no, death. Bugger off!’
“Perhaps a deeper meaning is that we all ride with death nipping at our heels everyday. Not in a morbid sense that we’re always could die at any moment (who could live like that?), but in the sense that all we ever have is this present shifting moment that is constantly dying and being reborn. The past is dead. The future is yet unborn. So when we die, whether we’re nine or ninety, the only thing we truly lose is this experience of the ever-present now."
